I may be dating myself slightly here when I tell you that my Godson, Bill, will be graduated from college at the end of of this term. I remember my own version of what he’s currently undergoing more than a few years ago. While it seemed brutal and demeaning at the time, I must admit, in retrospect, it seems like I had it pretty easy . I typed up a résumé, printed it out and sent it to every “adult” that I knew. Lo and behold, after a couple of weeks of stuffing envelopes and making phone calls, I had a real live interview, followed by a second interview. I was offered a position, and I accepted.

My Godson is in quite a different position. He’s sitting like a deer in the headlights, just waiting to line up with millions of his peers when he graduates, only to eagerly sprint head-first into a series of doors being slammed in his face. After all, while the job market is tough, it’s probably a lot tougher when you have absolutely no real-world experience (sorry, Bill).

Now he’s a smart kid, he went to a good school, got good grades, and things are bound to turn around sooner or later. Until he’s able to get a job in his field of studies, however, he may want to check out these great business opportunities : My Free Affiliate Site , Secret Cash Loophole , and Specialty Merchandise Corporation (Email only)!

Oh. My. Gosh. Not another blog about the iPad? Before I continue with this iPad/marketing related blog, I will issue a minor disclaimer. I totally understand that the coverage of this gadget is way overblown. And while I don’t want to throw some more gasoline on the fire (and continue to make Apple’s stock soar through the roof); I believe a product with as much hype as the iPad needs to be acknowledged as a game changer for tablet computing; and a minor game changer for the online advertising world.

A recent report by JiWire concluded that 23% of mobile wifi users plan to purchase an iPad in the next 12 months. With numbers like that one would expect the marketing industry to be jumping all over iPad advertisements. Another article from Adotas asks if marketers are just as excited as consumers about the iPad and its widespread popularity. The reaction, based on industry buzz, seems to be lukewarm at best.

Specifically, in our sector of online marketing, in affiliate marketing, the response to the iPad has been virtually frigid. At the end of the day, the iPad brings affiliate marketers another medium in which to get advertisements up, and based on the hype, more sets of eyeballs clicking on those ads. Affiliate marketing found its way into mobile computing with ease, yet that type of excitement seems to be lacking when it comes to the iPad. The other factor here is timing. Thursday Apple is holding its application developers conference and rumored to be rolling out its own mobile advertising network (creatively titled iAd). As the week draws to an end, we’ll probably know more about the iPad and its advertising platform.

Since the verdict is still up, I’d like to leave an on open question to affiliates: Are you planning on targeting iPad users in your affiliate marketing efforts? Drop us a line, let us know.

We all had an idea of what the “future” would be growing up. Flying cars, big brother, and food in pill form were going to change the way we all lived. At least, when I watched the Jetson’s growing up, this was the future I thought we would be living in. Here we are now, in “the future” and while we don’t have flying cars, or cheeseburger pills. We’ve got computers, iphones, and “the internet”, and of course…affiliate marketing. We’re not in the Jetson’s just yet, but things are changing: we’re using our phones to get online, Google and Facebook are slowly taking over the world, and people are lining up around city blocks to buy an Apple product with a five hundred dollar pricetag that they haven’t even seen in person. One thing that’s been around since my day’s of watching the Jetson’s (though I didn’t know it) was affiliate marketing, with origins going back to 1994. The affiliate marketing industry has found a way to sneak into every new online gadget, widget and derivative since its inception. Though a lot can be said about the affiliate marketing industry and its effect on technology as a whole; because of its track record, ability to flex and adapt – this industry is timeless. So here we are again, at the doorstep of another future – a mobile future. Will affiliate marketing survive and flex to meet the changes in technology, audience, and marketing strategies? You bet it will.

The iphone changed the landscape of mobile technology. Most importantly, it put smartphones in vogue. Smartphones became fashionable, they were no longer relegated to businesspeople and blackberry’s. Regular everyday people started buying smartphones, they wanted to access the internet on the go. Comscore claims that 30% of smartphone users accessed social networks from their phones in January of 2010, up 22.5% from ’09. The mobile audience had grown to well over 55 million by June of 2009, and with it came the rise of mobile ad networks. Affiliate marketers were quick to join in on the fun, harnessing admob and similar mobile networks, placing their offers in mobile applications, and overall cashing in on the mobile revolution. Just another testament to the affiliate marketing industry and its ability to change and grow. Though we came out of emails and static banners, we’re on iphones and blackberries.

Here we are again though, smartphones are here to say, and we’ve got tablets on the horizon. Though it might still be tough to tell if the ipad will boom or bust, it’s a safe prediction that technology is on a road to mobile computing and web access. It’s up to the affiliate marketing industry to leverage these new content distribution systems and use it to our advantage. In an industry that seems to find itself on the forefront of every new form of media, I’m not all that concerned that affiliate marketing will continue to grow to become a dominant force in both mobile and tablet advertising.

Beyond mobile computing, the internet as we know it still remains to be one of the largest resources for research, learning, and discovery. The only way to research, learn, and discover online is via searching – and affiliate marketing has poised itself as a factor in search marketing from the get go. The moment Google released adsense and adwords, affiliate marketers have clamored to perfect their search strategies and techniques. Search isn’t going anywhere, It’s just growing (real-time search anyone?) Affiliate marketing, despite a few road bumps here and there (the dreaded “google slap”) will continue to leverage new search techniques into an effective means for promotion.

The affiliate marketing industry’s latest success is a social one. Even though the Jetson’s never talked about “poking” anyone on facebook – social media has stormed into the digital landscape and it’s here to stay. (I know, shocking news right?). The affiliate marketing industry has always managed to use the best forms of methodology to penetrate any new form of online media. Social media included. Though it’s getting tougher for affiliate marketers to get ads on Facebook, this can only work wonders in weeding out anyone with less than moral practices and make sure compliant, competent marketers are the only ones in the space.

With all these changes occurring in both technology and the space, the competition changes. Affiliate marketers, true to definition, are some of the smartest – most innovative entrepreneurs in the digital space. Because of their drive, companies all over the space are raising their standards, making their guidelines more stringent, and ensuring best practices. Advertisers are demanding more out of their affiliate program. Networks (like BPM) are acting as watch-dog’s, dedicating compliance teams to making sure best practices are in place. All in all, these changes are great for the industry, a survival of the fittest if you will.

No one’s driving a flying car (yet), but the future’s here. And in the world of affiliate marketing its either change with the times, or get left behind.

If done right, Affiliate Marketing is a great way to earn a living. You can work from home, wear a bathrobe to work, and make a great deal of money. It’s essentially the pinnacle of the American Dream™. Unfortunately, countless people with dollar signs in their eyes jump in without any sort of game plan. And while some people do get lucky, you’re not likely to succeed in the long term without some sort of strategy. Although there are many tricks of the trade–perhaps too many to keep track of–I feel like a lot of people overlook the fundamentals. Some of those basic rules:

1. Make a list and check it twice. If you’re an email marketer, you’re going to need a big list. It’s also important to have some idea of who’s on that list, rather than spending a ton of money on a list of random emails. An excellent way to generate a list is to offer a free newsletter, in exchange for an email address. This allows you to dictate who signs up for your newsletter/blasts so that you can send offers that will speak to your audience. Also important: To make sure that your audience is legitimately interested by implementing a double opt-in process. By sending out a confirmation email to your list and asking them to confirm their signup by clicking on a link, you’re not only filtering out bad addresses and dummy accounts, but you’re also complying with CAN-SPAM laws. This can save you a lot of headaches down the road.

2. Engage your audience. If you’re creating a website, invest in a domain name. It’s easy to use prefab platforms with site-building tools like Blogspot. but it’s also easy for search engines to gloss over long and complicated extensions associated with such sites. Figure out what you’re selling and who you’re selling to. Create the catchiest, shortest domain name that you can, and whenever possible, make sure it ends in “.com”. Another tip here is not to make your site a giant commercial. It’s important to have content on your site that will draw an audience and keep them coming back. A good way to think of this is Infomercial vs. TV Show. You’ll watch a TV show and put up with a commercial or two every so often. On the other hand, I don’t know anyone who has voluntarily sat through an entire infomercial. With repeat visitors, you can rotate offers and help to build a constant revenue stream.

3. Strategize with your Affiliate Manager. No matter how you’re driving traffic, take advantage of your Affiliate Manager. If you’re not sure which offers to run, ask which is converting better. Two offers that may look very similar on paper may be performing on completely different levels. Let your Affiliate Manager know what you’re doing, who your audience is, and what offers are performing the best for you. They can use this information to help determine which offers will make you the most money. That’s why you’re doing all this in the first place.

I realize that it’s only March, but the third Sunday in June will be here before you know it. Like Many fathers, when my dad isn’t working, he divides his time pretty evenly between his five favorite hobbies. In the summer, he fishes. In the Winter, he hunts. On the weekend, he fixes things, whether they’re broken or not. It seems that almost every night, he watches the History Channel. I know this because he’s constantly talking about war. Finally, my father also constantly practices “being cheap” which he compliments by “having a little project on the side.”

So, if you’re an email marketer who can target dads across the country, or really any male between the ages of 25 and 65, we have some great offers for you!

To prep for the summer, we have Fishing Club. For the winter, we have Hunting Club. For the weekends, we have Handyman Club. For every weeknight, to help quench Dad’s thirst for facts, we have History Channel Club. All of these great first-page submits pay $1.60!

Finally, to help Dad to catch that extra buck he’s always chasing, we have Rich Dad Coaching which pays a whopping $5.80 for a first-page submit!

As I celebrate another birthday and reflect upon my youth, I realize how soft my generation has gotten. It used to be that to write a paper, one had to select a topic, go to the library, and find appropriate research materials using something called the Dewey Decimal System. Now all you have to do to achieve the same thing is to plug a few search terms into a search engine without leaving the comfort of your own home. Even worse was having to actually *read* through a lot of the material in order to even know whether or not it was even relevant to your paper. “Ctrl+F” has pretty much solved that little problem.

The absolute worst part (and this may be a little bit more specific to me, personally), was having to use a foreign language dictionary. I spent a lot of time in high school and college studying foreign languages, and spent hours of my life sweating over whether the translation of “wind” that I had used in a paper meant “air that’s moving fast” or “what you might do to a watch” (yes I had a watch that wound).

If I had had a product like Babylon Translation Software, I could have avoided many sleepless nights. I may have even gotten better grades. It’s a quick download, available in 19 countries over five continents. Learn how to say “show me the money” in every language on the planet!
