Amazon and Google make millions of dollars a year and overall are worth billions. Both are the front runners to online sales and Ad revenue, and are now trying to expand on that. Whose efforts will have the most impact? It may sound like an irrelevant question because they sell totally different products. That was true until now. Google is now planning on joining the product search and shipping industry.

Google has made tremendous stride towards becoming the leader of advertising sales. They are the number one search engine, and also own the second leading search engine, YouTube. Amazon cashes in at around $300,000 dollars daily on goods alone. Research has shown that this past year they reached “282 million visitors in June, or 20.4 percent of the worldwide Internet population”. They have built a tremendous rapport with the industry and is one of the immediate website’s people are going to for goods. How does Google plan to overturn them?

Not only do they have the leverage of YouTube, but Google plus is really beginning to make its mark on internet marketing. Your profile offers many features to build relationships and combine your efforts directly to the Google search engine. Google will combine those websites with their already overpower advertising dominance to help build and drive their product search campaign. They will offer a service for one day shipping if you buy a product their product search option. They are reported to be in major negotiations with a shipping company and major retailers like Macy’s

Will this result in Amazon’s declining? Will bidding for keywords, and ad space becoming more tedious and/or too expensive for the small business owner.

Well it’s ad:tech New York’o'clock again. And while most people, from exhibitors to attendees to those people who always somehow sneak into the show without ever having a pass just to collect the free swag, have their own methods of making the most of ad:tech New York, we wanted to provide a last-minute how-to guide to help you make the most of what ends up being a whirlwind 72 hours.

1. Whether your plans are just to walk the exhibit floor or hop from one one ad:tech party to the next, having something to change into is crucial. But what’s key are good pairs of shoes. The Javits Center is removed from the rest of Manhattan. Unless you want to be waiting in the cab queue, be sure to bring proper footwear so you can walk all those extra avenues.

2. Make sure you talk to everyone you want to see beforehand. People’s times–exhibitors and attendees alike–fill up fast, so managing a schedule is a great way to try to meet as many contacts as possible.

3. Bring a pen and notepad. It sounds simple, but you don’t want to be that guy who, in the middle of an unexpectedly brilliant discussion with a potential partner, has nothing to write with or write on.

4. Bring snacks. If you’re exhibiting at ad:tech New York–as we have in the past, having a generous supply of water and power bars will go a long way to keeping you on your feet and smiling. Even if you’re attending, sometimes items at the concessions can be a little costly at the Javits Center, so bring your own snacks and when you need to take a break, power up and the exhibit floor again.

5. Follow up. So ad:tech New York is over! You’ve collected cards, email addresses, and maybe even some secret hand-shakes with brand new BFFs. The next step is to keep the momentum going and in Q4, this is especially tricky. So send a brief thank you email just to keep yourself on your contact’s radar.

» And about LeadsCon…what’s the deal with that? Well it’s more about the panels.
» And about one of those panels, Mediatrust CEO Peter Bordes will be a panelist in a session entitled, “Is CPC the new CPL.” [@mediatrust via Twitter]

Over at Technorati, Pace Lattin documents an interesting trend: The inverse relationship between the growth rate of the affiliate marketing industry and the recovery rate of the American economy. It’s an especially startling trend because as Lattin notes, “The advertising industry is often the first industry that sees its revenue shrink in time of economic downturn.” But it seems like after having ten-plus years to come into its own, affiliate marketing is providing that industry with a get-around to such a dilemma.

With minimal overhead and countless distribution channels, affiliate marketing is grows at an enormous rate. This year’s Affiliate Summit West celebrated its biggest-ever turn-out, a true gauge of the industry boom–affiliate marketing provides big brands a great way to hit its numbers. Revenue Performance publisher Chris Trayhorn says that when faced with tight sales deadlines, many marketing executives are increasingly turning to affiliate marketing.

Another way, beyond numbers, that we can witness the growth and maturing of affiliate marketing? A discussion of “better practices” and “standards” as put forth by agencies like the Performance Marketing Association. The PMA discusses the need for standards here.

Of course, the continued success of this particular industry may be contributory to the fact that it’s currently the subject of many tax laws angling to cut out a slice of affiliate revenues.

And while we’re getting everything all set (we have brilliant pens–and everybody needs pens), it’s great to see ASE co-founder Missy Ward find some time to talk about the upcoming show at the Hilton New York. Presiding over the Q&A is Adotas Senior Editor and BPN blog contributor Gavin Dunaway. Some of our favorite bits after the break.

- Ward on what affiliates, merchants, and networks can get out of ASE: “Actually, the answers to the questions are synergistic. If you’re in the affiliate marketing industry, you will meet the people who can have a dramatic effect on your business.”

- On the importance of Affiliate Summit monthly mixers: “We realized that affiliate marketers can easily fall into the lone-wolf trap so we decided to launch Affiliate Summit monthly meetups in cities around the world so that affiliate marketers can get together to network and learn from one another.”

- Affiliate Summit Miami? Ward says, “We’re currently focusing on the growth of our East and West shows and are looking at expanding in other cities at other times in the year.”

- Our most favorite bit? This one: “I truly believe that Affiliate Summit’s success lies in the hands of our attendees.”

Do yourself a favor and read the whole thing over at Adotas. Now.
