Have an objective. Make a list of people you want to meet and what you want to accomplish with each meeting. You should know what your target it, so that you can focus your energy on it.

Develop a list of questions. This will help you keep the meetings productive and will also give you an idea of whether or not your new contact is a potential prospect.

Listen. This is not always an easy skill to master when you meet potential clients, but it is one that is sure to win you friends – and ultimately, business.

Exchange business cards. This will help you keep track of your contacts for later follow ups and business discussions.

Follow up. This is key to keeping the new relationships moving forward.  Use the follow up to extend on what was discussed at the initial meeting, providing additional information and staying in touch for further discussion of any business opportunity.
